Ride the Rapids became the first winner for freshman sire Long River when she captured a $30,000 maiden claiming event Nov. 12 at Laurel Park.
Making her third start for Super C Racing, the 2-year-old filly stalked the pacesetter throughout and eked out a nose score. Ridden by Carlos Lopez, she hit the wire in a final time of 1:13.36 for six furlongs on a good main track to increase her earnings to $28,600 for trainer Dale Capuano.
Ride the Rapids was bred in Maryland by Chanceland Farm, who later sold the filly to Super C for $40,000 at the 2021 Fasig-Tipton Midlantic Eastern Fall Yearling Sale.
The regally bred Long River is a 12-year-old son of A.P. Indy out of the 2006 Emirates Airline Breeders' Cup Distaff (G1) heroine Round Pond. Initially raced in the United States for breeder Darley, Long River won the 2013 Time for a Change Stakes and 2014 Evening Attire Stakes. He later placed in three graded stakes that year, including the Jockey Club Gold Cup (G1). Sent to Dubai for his 5-year-old campaign, he notched the biggest score of his career in the 2017 Al Maktoum Challenge Round 3 Sponsored By Emirates Airline (G1) while campaigned by Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohd Al Maktoum.
Long River stood the 2022 breeding season for an advertised fee of $1,500 at Anchor & Hope Farm near Port Deposit, Md.
