Lone Eagle , the winner of the 2020 Godolphin Flying Start Zetland Stakes (G3) as a juvenile and a narrow second to Hurricane Lane in last year's Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby (G1), will be offered on Goffs Online in a timed auction next week.
The son of Galileo, who was a 500,000gns (US$640,654) purchase by Aquis Farm from Ballylinch Stud at Book 1 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale in 2019, was a narrow second on debut at two for Martyn Meade before winning his other three starts that year, including the Zetland Stakes.
He added to his winning tally with victory in the British Stallion Studs E.B.F. Cocked Hat Stakes on his second start as a 3-year-old last year, beating subsequent Longines Breeders' Cup Turf (G1T) winner Yibir in the process. He then pushed Hurricane Lane close when finishing a neck down to the three-time group 1 winner at the Curragh in the Irish Derby.
Lone Eagle raced three times in 2022, with his best finish coming in a third-place effort in the listed William Hill Tapster Stakes at Goodwood. He posts a record of four wins from 11 trips to the post and $378,368 in earnings.
The 4-year-old is the first foal out of American stakes winner Modernstone , a daughter of Duke of Marmalade and a half sister to two black type horses including listed winner Chasing Stars .
She is in turn out of Post Modern, an unraced Nureyev full sister to Vodafone Epsom Oaks (G1) and Fillies' Mile (G1) winner Reams of Verse and half sister to the likes of Coal-Eclipse (G1) and Phoenix Champion Stakes (G1) scorer Elmaamul and Emirates Airline Yorkshire Cup (G2) winner Manifest .
Goffs Group chief executive Henry Beeby said: "Goffs is delighted to be entrusted with this important sale for this international owners group and look forward to keen interest from around the globe.
