Trainer Tom Amoss says he will accept a seven-day suspension which, according to a Nov. 13 statement posted on Twitter, will supposedly be handed down Nov. 14 by the Indiana Horse Racing Commission.
The suspension follows the positive test of the 3-year-old filly Catwings in the summertime, which showed the daughter of Cupid had above the allowed amount of a "permissible medication." The type of medication was not named.
The filly last ran at Horseshoe Indianapolis in a June 23 maiden special weight race where she won by two lengths and was later disqualified and placed last of 11.
The trainer added: "I am grateful for the stewards for independently recognizing this as a possible cross-contamination and reducing my suspension from 15 days to seven days. We will work to ensure this will not happen again."
Amoss established his stable in 1987 and has since been leading trainer at multiple tracks, including two in Indiana—Indiana Downs (now Horseshoe Indianapolis) and Hoosier Park Racing & Casino.
In 2015, Amoss was suspended for 45 days and fined $5,000 by the IHRC after a sample taken from one of his horses in October 2011 at Hoosier Park showed a positive for a muscle relaxant, methocarbamol. In a comment to BloodHorse just after the ruling was decided following a three-year legal battle, Amoss said: "I think the decision is very unfair, but the commission has spoken, so I'll take my days."
