Apprehend, the Zia Park Derby morning-line favorite, wins a Dec. 31, 2021, maiden race at Oaklawn Park

A 10-race program with over $1 million in purses and featuring seven stakes, topped by the $250,000 Zia Park Derby and $250,000 Zia Park Oaks, has brought invaders to New Mexico for Land of Enchantment Day Nov. 22.

Steve Asmussen, Jerry Hollendorfer, Peter Miller, and John Sadler are some of the out-of-town trainers with entries on the rich card.

Asmussen, the winningest trainer in North American racing history, has the 9-5 morning-line favorite in the Zia Park Oaks in Three Chimneys Farm's Bella Runner , while Miller has the two projected public choices in the Zia Park Derby in Peter Redekop's Apprehend  (7-5) and Gary Barber's Perfect Flight  (9-5).

Both races are 1 1/16 miles on dirt, the only surface at Zia Park.

Bella Runner is a daughter of Gun Runner   who has twice been second in entry-level allowances in Kentucky after a maiden victory this summer at Ellis Park.

Florent Geroux rides her in the Oaks, the 10th race, and will be aboard the Miller-trained Perfect Flight a race later in the Derby. 

Perfect Flight (Uncle Mo  ), recently third in the Twilight Derby (G2T) at Santa Anita Park, is a two-time winner on dirt. Apprehend (Arrogate ) has notched three victories, all on dirt, including a fast second-level allowance optional claimer against older horses Oct. 9 at Santa Anita.
