California Angel will look for her first victory in six starts this year Nov. 25 at Churchill Downs when she contests the $300,000 Mrs. Revere Stakes (G2T), a 1 1/16-mile event for 3-year-old fillies over the turf.
Trained by George Leonard III, the daughter of California Chrome found quick success last year, taking the JPMorgan Chase Jessamine Stakes (G2T) at Keeneland in her third start. She ran back at the World Championships a month later but finished 11th in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf (G1T) at Del Mar.
As a 3-year-old, the filly has placed in both the March 12 Allen Black Cat LaCombe Memorial Stakes and the Sept. 5 Exacta Systems Dueling Grounds Oaks. Her last time out was a runner-up finish in the Oct. 28 Rubicon Valley View Stakes (G3T) at Keeneland.
With earnings of $362,575 from 10 starts and a record of 2-2-2, the filly has more than paid off her purchase price, which was only $5,500 for Leonard from the Little Farm Equine consignment to the 2021 Ocala Breeders' Sales Company June Two-Year-Olds of Racing Age Sale. She is now owned by Chris Walsh.
Brad Cox trainee Bubble Rock , who ran a solid fourth last out behind California Angel in the Rubicon Valley, also is entered. Like California Angel, the More Than Ready filly won in graded stakes company in her third start, the 2021 Matron Stakes (G3) at Belmont Park. She also went on to the Breeders' Cup and finished 12th, right behind California Angel, in the Juvenile Fillies Turf. Since then, she won the Cincinnati Trophy Stakes earlier this year and placed in the Valdale Stakes and ran third in the Fantasy Stakes (G3T). The homebred for Shortleaf Stable has amassed $331,543 from a record of 3-2-1 from nine starts.
Trainer Kenny McPeek has entered three for the Mrs. Revere in Lady Puchi , Lovely Princess , and Sweet Lady Ivanka . Of the three, Lady Puchi has been closest to a stakes victory, running second in the off-the-turf Searching Stakes in August. She was sixth last out in the Valley View. Lovely Princess and Sweet Lady Ivanka were winners in their last runs, the former in an Oct. 27 allowance race at Keeneland, and the latter breaking her maiden Nov. 10 at Churchill.
Completing the field are Take a Stand , She's Gone , Fancy Martini , Have A Good Day , Quality Star , and Joyful Applause .
