Pinehurst captures the 2021 Del Mar Futurity

"An excellent outcome all around. Pinehurst   has been purchased by a domestic farm which will announce in due time," Tom Ryan of SF Bloodstock told BloodHorse Nov. 22 after the Fasig-Tipton Pinehurst Flash Sale concluded.

The final price was not named, along with the purchaser for the 3-year-old son of Twirling Candy  , a grade 1 winner who has earned more than $1.2 million in seven starts with a record of 3-1-0.

As a juvenile he won first time out, followed by an impressive four-length victory in the Runhappy Del Mar Futurity (G1). This year he was runner-up in the San Vicente Stakes (G2) and shipped overseas to capture the $900,000 Al Rajhi Bank Saudi Derby (G3) for Hall of Fame trainer Bob Baffert.

The colt was campaigned by the partnership of SF Racing, Starlight Racing, Madaket Stables, Robert E. Masterson, Stonestreet Stables, Jay A. Schoenfarber, Waves Edge Capital, Catherine Donovan, Golconda Stable, and Siena Farm.

Ryan added: "The process was seamless, with interested parties having the opportunity to vet and inspect Pinehurst at Margaux Farm over the weekend."

Agent Donato Lanni, purchasing on behalf of SF/Starlight/Madaket, sourced the colt out of the Giant's Causeway mare Giant Win from the Woods Edge Farm consignment at the Keeneland September Sale for $385,000.

He was bred in Kentucky by Fred W. Hertrich III and John D. Fielding, who initially sent him through the Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale with Taylor Made Sales Agency, selling to P & B Stables for $180,000.

"A transaction of this magnitude gives the Fasig-Tipton online platform serious credibility; we now have a realistic avenue to trade high-end racing and breeding stock to a global market with a few days' notice," Ryan said. "The more instant liquidity we have in the marketplace, the better."

ELiTE consigned the colt as a racing or stallion prospect. Pinehurst comes from the immediate family of multiple graded stakes-winning millionaire Graeme Hall and grade 1 winner Harmony Lodge.

"The professionalism of the entire team at Fasig-Tipton was on full display today," Ryan said. "ELiTE Sales, as always, handled the transaction in stride. We only muttered the idea to Brad (Weisbord) last Wednesday. Corbin Blumberg from Starlight framed the idea a few weeks ago, and I'm delighted we put it into action. Everyone played their part, and I see this type of online transaction becoming a more frequent affair."
