Hot Snitzel Caps 5-Win Day for Jockey Shinn

Description:

Jockey Blake Shinn capped a memorable five-win day at Doomben May 9 aboard Hot Snitzel, a 6-year-old gelding who got his breakthrough group I win in the BTC Cup.

The son of Snitzel was ready to roll when the front-runners faded, scoring by three-quarters of a length over Knoydart, with favorite Our Boy Malachi third after leading inside the final furlong.

Time was 1:09.47 for 1,200 meters (about six furlongs).

Bred in Australia by Arrowfield Group, Hot Snitzel is owned by large partnership that includes Triple Crown Syndicates, which bought him from the consignment of Arrowfield's sister farm Bellerive Stud for Aus$60,000 at the 2010 Inglis Melbourne premier yearling sale.

The BTC Cup marked Hot Snitzel's fifth group win and seventh stakes win overall. He has an 8-5-3 record from 34 career starts and was making his first start for trainers Peter and Paul Snowden after being previously trained by Gerald Ryan.

"This is a surprise from a horse that has been around for while," Shinn told the Sydney Morning Herald about Hot Snitzel, who rebounded from a third in the Star Kingdom Stakes (Aus-III) March 28 at Rosehill Gardens last time out and snapped a six-race winless skid. "I knew he was going really well and he ran right up to that."

The Snowdens also sent out I've Got The Looks to win the listed Juanmo Stakes and Charlie Boy to victory in the Darley BRC Sprint (Aus-III), both ridden by Shinn. The BTC Cup was the second elite level win on the day for the rider, who took the Doomben Cup (Aus-I) win Pornichet. His banner day also included a victory with Sadler's Lake in the Mittys Rough Habit Plate Stakes (Aus-III).
