I'mgonnabesomebody wins the Joseph T. Grace Stakes at Golden Gate Fields

I'mgonnabesomebody , Freeport Joe , and Lammas —within a length of each other when 1-2-3 in the $54,300 Joseph T. Grace Stakes at Golden Gate Fields Nov. 5—meet again Nov. 26 at the Northern California track with more on the line in the $100,000 Berkeley Handicap (G3).

A 1 1/16-mile test on Tapeta, the five-horse Berkeley Handicap is the final graded stakes of 2022 in Northern California.

I'mgonnabesomebody and Freeport Joe have traded decisions over the synthetic surface this fall, with Freeport Joe defeating I'mgonnabesomebody by 4 1/4 lengths in a prior meeting in an allowance Sept. 30. That day, Freeport Joe ran down a pace-pressing I'mgonnabesomebody.

With I'mgonnabesomebody in front early in the Joseph T. Grace Stakes, he proved a stubborn rival, lasting by three-quarters of a length, with a stalking Lammas another neck back in third.

Santos Rivera rides I'mgonnabesomebody, a 4-year-old Will Take Charge   gelding trained by Bill McLean for owners Nin Auyeung, Sharon Broetzman, Philip Crosby, Cheryl Hauck, Bill McLean, Todd Miller, Elizabeth Moran, and Marilyn Taylor.

The Berkeley also drew two invaders from Southern California in Rip City  and Tulsa Tornado , both of whom come off efforts on the grass at Santa Anita Park. Rip City won a second-level allowance optional claimer Nov. 5, while Tulsa Tornado was fourth in a first-level allowance optional claiming event on that same card.
