Jockey Jalon Samuel has been suspended seven days for careless riding in the Nov. 18 sixth race at Aqueduct Racetrack, an incident that led to a spill in which Trevor McCarthy suffered a broken collarbone and pelvic injury that will sideline him until sometime in 2023.

The dates of the suspension were not immediately known since Samuel had originally informed the stewards that he would appeal the suspension that was announced this week. He has since decided to drop the appeal.

"I'm not appealing it. I'll just take the days," Samuel said after winning Saturday's seventh race at Aqueduct aboard 48-1 shot Duckphat  ($98.50), a Quality Road   filly trained by Henry Neville who had been winless in her first 12 starts

Samuel was aboard Rhombique  in the aforementioned Nov. 18 race when he angled out in search of room nearing the quarter pole, starting a chain reaction in which Ever Summer  clipped heels and fell, tossing McCarthy to the ground.

Rhombique crossed the wire in second but was disqualified and placed ninth for interfering with several horses.
