Australian champion mare Winx has missed to Arrowfield Stud sire Snitzel this breeding season and will not produce a foal in 2023.
The 11-year-old mare's owners, the Tighe, Kepitis, and Treweke families, announced the news in a statement via Twitter on Dec. 8.
WINX Update - Dec 2022
It’s not the update we were hoping to provide, sadly it wasn’t meant to be this year for Winx & Snitzel.
Winx is doing very well with her Pierro filly, and the decision has been made to give her this year off.

The statement read: "It’s not the update we were hoping to provide, sadly it wasn't meant to be this year for Winx and Snitzel. Winx is doing very well with her Pierro filly, and the decision has been made to give her this year off."
Winx retired in 2019 as the world's richest racehorse with $19,726,457 in earnings and 25 group 1 victories. The daughter of Street Cry was elected into the Australian Racing Hall of Fame in 2017 while still in training with conditioner Chris Waller.
Following her retirement, Winx was mated to I Am Invincible but produced a stillborn foal the following year.
She was subsequently not covered in 2020 to recover from the loss.
Winx produced her first live foal, a filly by Coolmore's Pierro, in October of this year.
Her owners were ecstatic over the filly's birth and reported on Instagram that: "Both mum and foal are healthy and doing very well. Thank you to the amazing team who have cared for Winx and her filly throughout this journey. We wish Winx all the best as she starts this new chapter as a super mum."
