Andthewinneris takes the Bourbon Stakes at Keeneland

Concluding a 2022 season for Andthewinneris  in which he went from maiden to graded stakes winner on turf and competed in the Breeders' Cup, the 2-year-old colt gets a chance to finish out his year with a victory in the $100,00 Gun Runner Stakes Dec. 26 at Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots.

The Gun Runner, a 1 1/16 mile event for juveniles over the main track, offers qualifying points on a 10-4-3-2-1 scale towards the 2023 Kentucky Derby Presented by Woodford Reserve (G1). Horses with the most Derby points have preference when the May 6 Kentucky Derby draws beyond its maximum field size of 20 participants.

A homebred for Susan Moulton, Andthewinneris began his career with a scintillating finish in an April 28 maiden special weight on turf at Keeneland where he bested a field of ten others.

The colt moved to the dirt for his next start in the July 4 Bashford Manor Stakes at Churchill Downs, and his kick was not as effective, resulting in a third-place finish, beaten 12 1/4 lengths. He was back on the turf a month later in the Aug. 31 With Anticipation Stakes (G3T) at Saratoga Race Course and again was third, this time 1 3/4 lengths behind the winner.

Trainer Wayne Catalano then send the son of Oscar Performance   to the Oct. 9 Castle & Key Bourbon Stakes (G2T) at Keeneland, which proved the right decision after he flew home first for a 2 3/4 length victory.

Last out, Andthewinneris took to the Lexington oval once again for the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf (G1T). The colt stayed towards the back of the pack and surged up to seventh late, 3 3/4 lengths away from victory.

Looking ahead to the Gun Runner, and to next year, the colt will attempt to trade surfaces in order to gain a shot at running on the first Saturday in May. Other entries also vying for their chance at making a path to the Derby are Hayes Strike , Jace's Road , Determinedly , Old Alliance , Mazing Mark , and Raise Cain .

Hayes Strike and Jace's Road are graded-placed on dirt and Determinedly was a fast maiden winner in November at Churchill.

Pretty Mischievous Eyes Untapable Stakes

A race after the Gun Runner, Godolphin homebred Pretty Mischievous  will contest the $100,000 Untapable Stakes after three confident runs at Churchill Downs— the same track she will hope to return to during the first week of May next year.

The Untapable for 2-year-old fillies is at a mile and seventy yards over the main track at Fair Grounds and offers qualifying points on a 10-4-3-2-1 scale towards the 2023 Longines Kentucky Oaks (G1) at Churchill Downs. CDI caps the Oaks field at 14 starters, with preference given to qualifying points when the race is overdrawn.

The Brendan Walsh-trained Pretty Mischievous broke her maiden her first time out at the Louisville, Ky., track Sept. 18, stalking the pace and springing to the front for a commanding win. She returned in late October to win an allowance optional claiming race in a similar fashion.

Last out, she was third in the Nov. 26 Golden Rod Stakes (G2). The Golden Rod, won authoritatively by Hoosier Philly , was a faster race than the Kentucky Jockey Club on the same program.

Completing the field are Two Minute Drill , Hang the Moon , Vahva , Cotton Candy Annie , The Alys Look , All About Me , Just Like Magic , Hayunevano , and Miss Shipman .
