Fire At Will wins the 2020 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf

Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf (G1T) winner and Eclipse Award finalist Fire At Will   will stand at Sequel New York for 2023 at a fee of $6,000, the farm announced Jan. 17.

Fire At Will proved quickly to be an exceptional racehorse. In his second career start, he won the With Anticipation Stakes at Saratoga Race Course. His next start would be in graded stakes company, where he dominated in the Pilgrim Stakes (G2) at Belmont Park, winning by two lengths after an impressive wire-to-wire performance. One month later, at Keeneland, Fire At Will would make history on the world's biggest stage, to win the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf by three lengths, the largest margin of victory in the history of the race while beating out the likes of grade 1 winner Gretzky The Great   and grade 2 winners Mutasaabeq   and Battleground . Fire At Will's 2-year-old campaign was recognized when he was made a finalist for championship honors eventually won by Essential Quality  .

At 3, Fire At Will went unplaced in the Fountain of Youth Stakes (G2) on Gulfstream Park's main track and was then sent back to Keeneland, where he finished a close third in the Transylvania Stakes (G3T).

"He is absolutely the fastest 2-year-old I have ever trained on the turf," said Mike Maker, who raced the colt for Three Diamonds Farm. Fire At Will won three of six starts and earned $675,932 during his career.

Kentucky breeder Troy Rankin bred the son of Declaration of War  out of the Kitten's Joy mare Flirt, who is a half sister to grade 1 winner and multiple graded stakes winner Decorated Invader  (Declaration of War) and to stakes winner and stakes producer Jubilant Girl (Henrythenavigator ). The immediate family also produced prominent sire Stormy Atlantic and grade 1 winner and sire Bandini and traces back to the important mare Moccasin, whose branch produced prominent sires Apalachee, Northern Meteor, Smart Missile, and Brahms.

"This is, perhaps, the most powerful stallion family in the world today," said pedigree analyst Alan Porter.

"Recent Fasig-Tipton Digital Sale graduate Fire At Will presents a great opportunity to breeders in New York. He was a brilliant Breeders' Cup winner at 2 and has an outstanding pedigree. Becky Thomas and her team at Sequel have added another really exciting stallion prospect for the 2023 breeding season," said Boyd Browning Jr., president of Fasig-Tipton.

Fire At Will, along with Keepmeinmind, Honest Mischief, Freud, and Mission Impazible will all be available for inspection Jan. 21 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Sequel Stallions New York located at 167 Maple Lane, Hudson, N.Y.
