Description:

Two-time Eclipse Award winner Beholder was back on the Santa Anita Park track May 14, after she was scratched from the May 9 Vanity Stakes (gr. I) because of an illness.

The 5-year-old mare had a fever and high white blood cell count two days before the Vanity and trainer Richard Mandella did not hesitate to scratch her.

"She went out with a pony," said Mandella, who has the daughter of Henny Hughes scheduled for the $100,000 Adoration Stakes (gr. III) at Santa Anita June 13.

Another Mandella trainee, American Stakes (gr. IIIT) winner Bal a Bali, should make his next appearance in the Shoemaker Mile (gr. IT) at Santa Anita June 13.
