Description:

WinStar Farm's multiple graded stakes winner Revolutionary returned to the races for the first time since the 2013 Belmont Stakes (gr. I)  with a solid victory Jan. 11 at Gulfstream Park, taking a one mile allowance by half a length over grade III winner Falling Sky .

The 4-year-old son of War Pass turned in a solid performance as the 1-5 favorite over four others in the $54,500 event, picking up horses one by one after getting off to a slightly slow start. Jockey Javier Castellano kept the colt in the clear on the outside well behind the pace set by Falling Sky, who went a quarter in :23.78 and a half in :46.41 before getting three-quarters in 1:09.84.

Coming off the turn, Revolutionary was three wide and had the frontrunner to contend with along with 2012 Gulfstream Park Derby winner Reveron. He put the latter away with ease through seven eighths in 1:22.16 under Castellano's confident hand ride and powered on to pass 2013 Sam F. Davis (gr. III) winner Falling Sky in deep stretch to complete the distance in 1:35.07.

Trainer Todd Pletcher confirmed the Feb. 9 Donn Handicap (gr. I) as the next target for Revolutinary, who won the Withers Stakes (gr. III) and Louisiana Derby (gr. II) in early 2013 before finishing third in the Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I) and fifth in the Belmont Stakes (gr. I).

Revolutionary returned $2.60, $2.10, and $2.10 while Falling Sky paid $5 and $3.60 and third-place finisher Viramundo paid $4.20. Reveron and Honorable Dillon completed the order of finish; My Adonis and Silver Menace were scratched.

Bred in Kentucky by Willaim S. Farish out of grade I winner Runup the Colors, by A.P. Indy, Revolutinary has a 4-1-3 record from nine career starts and earnings of $1,047,600. He was a $235,000 purchase at the Ocala Breeders Sales Co.'s 2012 select sale of 2-year-olds in training when consigned by Niall Brennan, after selling to Valera Stable for $80,000 as a weanling at the 2011 at the Keeneland September sale in the Lane's End consignment.
