Clearly a fan of the Oaklawn Park surface after taking two stakes wins in her last two starts over the Hot Springs oval, Lovely Ride will look to make it three in the Feb. 4 Bayakoa Stakes (G3) for fillies and mares 4-years-old and up going 1 1/16 miles.
After coming under the tutelage of trainer Robertino Diodoro early last year, the 5-year-old daughter of Candy Ride finished off the board in the 2022 Tom Benson Memorial Stakes and then was runner-up in the Mari Hulman George Memorial Stakes at Horseshoe Indianapolis more than three months later.
She ended last year's season with a win in the Mistletoe Stakes at Oaklawn after a four-month layoff that followed a last placed effort in the Trillium Stakes (G3) at Woodbine in mid-August.
Starting out 2023 with a bang, the mare captured the Jan. 7 Pippin Stakes where she led gate-to-wire in front of fellow Bayakoa challengers, grade 3-placed Ice Orchid , and grade 1 runner-up in Chile, Le Da Vida .
Brad Cox trainee A Mo Reay heads to Oaklawn off of a three-length victory in the Dec. 31 Pago Hop Stakes at Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots, while the Norm Casse trained Powder River was runner-up in the Dec. 26 Joseph E. Spanky Broussard Memorial Stakes last out.
John Ortiz takes Ice Orchid as well as stakes-placed Graysonsmacho Gal . Completing the field is Eric Foster trainee Guana Cay .
