Aqueduct, Laurel Cancel Saturday Cards

Description:

Heavy fog forced Aqueduct Racetrack to cancel racing after the first race on Saturday, Jan. 11, and winter weather conditions in the Baltimore and Washington D.C. areas saw Laurel Park cancel its Saturday card as well.

“With the temperature going from the single digits early in the week to nearly 60 today, the track has been freezing, thawing and freezing again,” said Maryland Jockey Club director of racing Georganne Hale. "The combination of the freezing and the moisture are the contributing factors. We couldn’t even get a piece of equipment out on the track. They were just sinking.”

Laurel and its sister track, Pimlico Race Course, will be open for simulcasting. Live racing is scheduled to resume Wednesday, Jan. 15, with a first post time of 12:35 p.m. EST.

Aqueduct is set to resume racing Sunday, Jan. 12, beginning at 12:25 p.m. EST. The day's feature is the $100,000 Ruthless Stakes at six furlongs for 3-year-old fillies.
