Tiz the Bomb is set to return from a six-month injury layoff Feb. 18 in the Fair Grounds Stakes (G3T), a 1 1/8 mile test at Fair Grounds Race Course and Slots.
He last ran Aug. 5, finishing fourth in the National Museum of Racing Hall of Fame Stakes (G2T) at Saratoga Race Course. According to a tweet from trainer Kenny McPeek, the colt stumbled heading into the first turn and came away with an injury below his right knee at the top of the tendon. Despite that, Tiz the Bomb still finished fourth.
Now, the son of Hit It a Bomb and Tiz the Key, by Tiznow will look to regain the form that saw him compete in the Kentucky Derby (G1) as well as the 2021 Breeders' Cup.
Also in the field of eight 4-year-olds and up is last year's Fair Grounds Stakes winner, Calvary Charge . Trained by Dallas Stewart, the son of Honor Code won last year after setting the pace early but holding on to claim victory by a head. Like Tiz the Bomb, he is returning from a layoff, having most recently run in the Mint Million Stakes (G3T) five months ago at Kentucky Downs where he finished last of eight. The 2022 Fair Grounds Stakes was his last visit to the winners' circle.
Rounding out the challengers are Bay Street Money , Corelli , English Tavern , Gentle Soul , Pixelate , and Two Emmys .
