Louisiana-bred Allnight Moonlight became the first black-type stakes winner for Calumet Farm stallion Ransom the Moon when he captured the $75,000 Louisiana Stallion Of The Year Half Ours Stakes at Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots Feb. 25.
Allnight Moonlight, owned by Roger Smith and trained by Ron Faucheux, sprinted to the lead and never looked back on his way to a dominating four-length tally Saturday. Ridden by Jareth Loveberry, the 3-year-old colt stopped the timer in 1:43.94 for the 1 1/16 miles on a fast main track.
The stakes win was the second-lifetime score for Allnight Moonlight, who had previously defeated state-breds in a one-mile maiden special weight event at Fair Grounds only three weeks earlier.
Bred by Coteau Grove Farms, Allnight Moonlight is out of the Medaglia d'Oro mare Gingertini, the dam of two winners from two foals to race. Gingertini comes from the immediate family of multiple grade 1-winning sprinter Rock Fall.
Second crop sire Ransom the Moon, a finely-bred son of Malibu Moon, was a two-time grade 1 winner on the track, scoring back-to-back victories in the Bing Crosby Stakes (G1) in 2017 and 2018 over champion sprinter and Breeders' Cup Sprint (G1) hero Roy H . A half brother to multiple grade 1 winner and millionaire Count Again (Awesome Again), Ransom the Moon retired to Calumet Farm in Lexington in 2019.
The 11-year-old stallion stands the 2023 breeding season for a fee of $5,000.
