Goldstream Wins Italiano, Still Unbeaten

Description:
Trainer Stefano Botti landed the Derby Italiano (Ity-II) for the third consecutive year May 17, when unbeaten Goldstream led in stablemates Sound of Freedom and Time Chant in a 1-2-3 finish at Capannelle in Rome.

Tracking from third early under Cristian Demuro, Goldstream easily took over from longtime front-runner Misty Love with three-eights to run, and shook free to a three-length triumph as his stablemate pursued in vain.

Goldstream was timed in 2:16.20 for 2,200 meters (about 1 3/8 miles) on good turf to keep his record perfect in five career starts. Premio Regina Elena (Italian One Thousand Guineas, ITY-III) winner Sound of Freedom bested Time Chant for second. The winner and runner-up are both owned by Scuderia Effevi.

A son of Martino Alonso, Goldstream breezed to facile three-length victory over Time Chant in the Premio Botticelli, a traditional Derby prep, April 26 last time in his stakes debut. The Derby marked his third start of the year.

The Darshaan mare Imco Imagination is the dam of Italian-bred Goldstream, a half brother to Italian stakes winner and Australian group III-placed Bit of Hell (Hurricane Run) and Italian stakes-placed runners Sweet Lollipop (Shamardal) and Veddasca (Polish Precedent). He was bred by Societa Agricola Allevamento Deni Srl and is from the extended family includes French group I winner and sire Lear Fan.

Botti had six runners in the field of 15 3-year-olds, also finishing fifth with Roccia d'Oro, seventh with Firun, and 11th with Ora Dei Desideri. He won the race in 2014 with Dylan Mouth and in 2013 with Biz the Nurse, as well as in 2011 with Crackerjack King.
