

Jareth Loveberry fractured a fibula in a gate accident at Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots March 1 when his stakes-winning mount, Not On Herb , reared before the start of the fourth race, the rider tweeted March 2. Not On Herb was scratched from the $52,000 allowance race.
Loveberry did not provide a specific timetable for his return to riding. He tweeted he would have a follow-up with a specialist and "will be back soon."
The fibula, sometimes called the calf bone, is the smaller of two bones in the lower leg.
Through racing Wednesday at Fair Grounds, Loveberry was second in the standings with 46 victories, trailing only Reylu Gutierrez with 55 wins. The Fair Grounds meet concludes March 26.
A rider since 2005, Loveberry has topped the standings at tracks such as Canterbury Park, Hawthorne Race Course, and Arlington International Racecourse. He has 1,753 career wins from 12,782 rides, and his mounts have made over $34 million.
He experienced a career-best year in 2022, winning 147 races and more than $5.2 million in purses. He captured the John B. Connally Turf Cup Stakes (G3T) last year aboard Another Mystery and the Street Sense Stakes (G3) at Churchill Downs on Two Phil's , a colt he has also guided to two graded stakes placing in 2023 on the Kentucky Derby (G1) trail.
