Spendthrift Farm reported March 8 that one of its high-profile broodmares, multiple grade 1 winner Got Stormy will not have a foal this year because she lost her pregnancy near the end of last year. The 8-year-old daughter of Get Stormy , however, is in good health and has already been bred back, according to the farm.
"Although we are saddened, we are very grateful she is in good health. On March 5 Got Stormy was bred to champion freshman sire Bolt d'Oro ," the farm reported.
Spendthrift acquired Got Stormy at Fasig-Tipton's 2020 The November Sale for $2.75 million out of Bluewater Sales' consignment. The mare had just completed a season in which she added two more graded stakes to her winning record. For her career to that point, she had 10 wins from 26 starts and earned more than $2 million. Spendthrift and MyRacehorse campaigned her in 2021 and celebrated victories in the Fourstardave Handicap (G1T) and Honey Fox Stakes (G3T). She was retired after 2021 with a 12-5-3 record from 32 starts and earned $2,468,403.
Got Stormy had been bred in 2022 to the farm's first-year sire Yaupon . A foal by Bolt d'Oro would be inbred 4x5 to Seattle Slew and represents the same cross as group 2 winner Che Maga and stakes winner She's My Warrior .
