Free Like a Girl wins the 2022 Magnolia Stakes at Delta Downs

Free Like a Girl  has been voted 2022 Louisiana-bred Horse of the Year, according to the Louisiana Thoroughbred Breeders Association.

Other Louisiana-bred prizes of 2022 went to Janet Is Ready  as 2-year-old filly, Late September  as 2-year-old male, Free Like a Girl as 3-year-old filly, Touchuponastar  as 3-year-old male, Net a Bear  as older filly and mare, and Who Took the Money  as older male.

Free Like a Girl, a daughter of El Deal  owned by Gerald Bruno Jr., Carl Deville, Chasey Deville Pomier, and Jerry Caroom, was a multiple stakes winner last year. Trained by Pomier, she also became graded placed, running second in the Charles Town Oaks (G3) and Remington Park Oaks (G3) and third in the Iowa Oaks (G3).

Breeder of the Year, based on the amount of breeder awards earned in the calendar year, went to Brittlyn Stable, with earnings of $221,442.

The High Percentage Breeder award of 2022 went to Allied Racing Stables, with 38% stakes winners from starters. Only breeders with five or more starters are eligible for that honor.

The 2022 Stallion of the Year went to Star Guitar  , whose progeny earned more than $2.3 million. He stands at Clear Creek Stud in Louisiana for $7,500.

Award presentations will be made at an awards banquet tentatively planned to be held at Evangeline Downs on June 3.
