Group 1 winner Coventina Bay will be sold at the Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale, after her retirement, according to a March 16 announcement by her connections.
The Robbie Patterson-trained mare won 11 of her 31 starts, including five stakes races, headlined by consecutive victories in Herbie Dyke Stakes (G1) and Bonecrusher New Zealand Stakes (G1) last year.
Newgate Farm will prepare the 7-year-old for the Gold Coast auction. She ended her career with a sixth-place finish in the Herbie Dyke Stakes on Saturday.
"She is retired now and she is in the paddock enjoying herself," Patterson said.
"She is going over to Newgate Farm in the middle of next month to be prepared for the Gold Coast broodmare sale. We are hoping that she can get a good price."
Coventina Bay delivered Patterson his first group 1 success, and while he will always be thankful to the mare for that achievement, it is another race that sticks out in the trainer's mind when reflecting on her career.
"Winning group 1s is pretty special, but there was the Lisa Chittick Plate at Matamata, which for me was probably her best win," he said.
"She was back, she went through them, and destroyed them that day. That was a special win, but obviously the group 1s are at the top of the table. She was a fantastic horse and put me on the ladder to better things. I owe a lot to her."
