Description:
Texas Red posted his first timed workout since mid-March, drilling an easy three furlongs May 19 at Santa Anita Park as he begins training toward a comeback from a foot issue.

The son of Afleet Alex  , trained by Keith Desormeaux, covered the distance in :38 2/5, a time that ranked 14th of 16 moves at the distance.

The 2014 Sentient Jet Breeders' Cup Juvenile (gr. I) winner, who will miss the Triple Crown races because of an abscess in his right front foot, had trained only lightly since a March 14 half-mile workout that followed a month of swim therapy at Premier Equine Center in Oakdale, Calif. An ultrasound in early April cleared him to return to serious training in early May.

The foot abscess was discovered after Texas Red finished a neck second to Lord Nelson in the Feb. 1 San Vicente (gr. II) in his first start since capturing the Breeders' Cup Juvenile by 6 1/2 lengths.

Desormeaux owns the colt in a partnership that also includes Erich Brehm, Wayne Detmar, and Lee Michaels.
