Munnys Gold Invades Tampa for Sophomore Fillies

The South Florida-stabled Munnys Gold , a winner of her two starts by a combined 20 3/4 lengths, travels to Tampa Bay Downs to race March 26 for the $110,000 Sophomore Fillies Stakes.

The Sophomore Fillies is a seven-furlong race for Florida-bred 3-year-old fillies that includes Lynx  and Dreaming of Snow  among its cast of eight. The former won two legs of the FTBOA Florida Sire Stakes series last year at Gulfstream Park, and the latter upset Wonder Wheel , the Eclipse Award-winning 2-year-old filly of last year, in the Suncoast Stakes earlier this year at Tampa.

They are 9-2 and 4-1 odds, respectively, on the morning line behind even-money choice Munnys Gold.

Leading Gulfstream Park jockey Irad Ortiz Jr. travels to Tampa for the mount on the favored daughter of Munnings  , who Hall of Famer Todd Pletcher trains for owners Robert and Lawana Low. Ortiz also has six other mounts on a 12-race card with five other $110,000 stakes for Florida-breds.

The Sophomore Fillies is the second race of the year for the speedy Munnys Gold, who most recently won a state-bred first-level allowance race by 6 1/4 lengths at Gulfstream Jan. 25, covering six furlongs in 1:10.78. That race followed seven months after a debut score at Monmouth Park in June when she zipped five furlongs in :56.60 in taking a maiden race by 14 1/2 lengths.

The Sophomore Fillies Stakes is Tampa's seventh race at 3:32 p.m. ET.
