The undefeated Munnys Gold retained her perfect record March 26 at Tampa Bay Downs when coming home a dominant victress in the Sophomore Fillies Stakes. The 3-year-old daughter of Munnings set a new dirt track record for seven furlongs in her third win in as many starts, blazing the distance in 1:20.09 and finishing 17 1/4 lengths ahead of the competition.
Bred in Florida by Nicksar Farms, Munnys Gold was most recently purchased for $300,000 by Robert and Lawana Low from the Four Star Sales consignment at the 2021 Fasig-Tipton Kentucky Select Yearling Sale. Under the tutelage of Hall of Fame trainer Todd Pletcher, the filly was an impressive winner as a juvenile at Monmouth Park in a 14 1/2-length maiden special weight romp her first time out.
In an allowance race last out at Gulfstream Park Jan. 25, the filly posted a 6 1/4-length score with Irad Ortiz Jr. at the reins for the first time.
Returning to the saddle Sunday, Ortiz piloted the 2-5 favorite around the fast dirt track marking a speedy quarter mile in :21.79 and matching Pretty'n Awesome for the lead. Heading into the final turn with a half-mile completed in :44.30, the filly took command and absolutely flew away from the competition to go three quarters of a mile in 1:08.16. At the wire, it was all Munnys Gold as she extended her margin effortlessly.
Dreaming of Snow was runner-up and Awesome Pic was third.
Munnys Gold ($2.80) improved her record to 3-for-3 and increased her earnings to $126,900. She is out of the unraced Medaglia d'Oro mare Haraawa who has two winners from two foals to race. Haraawa also has a yearling Frosted filly and was bred back to Game Winner for this year.
