Throughout the first 13 races of his career, Warrant only knew top-four finishes. But his last time out, he found himself in an unusual position—eighth—in the March 4 Santa Anita Handicap (G1).
Now, the 5-year-old son of Constitution looks to regain his form in the $150,000 1 1/2-mile Temperence Hill Stakes at Oaklawn Park April 2. The race features a field of six 4-year-olds and up.
Trained by Brad Cox, Warrant will have Flavien Prat in the irons. Last time out, the horse was bumped out of the gate but steadied by Prat and stayed close to the leaders until fading late and finishing 16 lengths back. Warrant is 4-5-3 from 14 starts with $937,825 in career earnings.
He is not alone in trying to reestablish himself on the track. Millionaire Lone Rock is back after an eight month hiatus, which was due to exhaustion according to trainer Robertino Diodoro.
"Hopefully, he comes back good," the trainer said last month. With a lifetime record of 16-5-3 from 42 starts, the son of Majestic Warrior has earned $1,412,541.
The Hot Springs, Ark., dirt is familiar to Lone Rock, who has run there 13 times. This will also be his third attempt at the Temperence Hill. He won last year, edging Last Samurai by a neck. Two years ago, he fell short by that same margin to Carlos L.
Rounding out the field are Calibrate , Full Charge , Mystic Knight, and Strong Tide .
