Nakatomi wins a Nov. 5 allowance optional claimer at Keeneland

Marc Detampel, Qatar Racing, and Bottle Rocket Stable's Nakatomi , undefeated in three Keeneland starts, heads a field of 10 older horses in the 36th running of the $300,000 Commonwealth Stakes (G3) April 8 going seven furlongs on the main track. 

The Commonwealth will go as the afternoon's fifth race with a 2:50 p.m. ET post time. 

Trained by Wesley Ward, Nakatomi broke his maiden at first asking at Keeneland in the spring of 2021 and followed that up with a win in the 2021 Bowman Mill Stakes and then a score in an allowance optional race on the Nov. 5 Breeders' Cup undercard in his subsequent visits to the track. 

Third in the Tom Fool Handicap (G3) at Aqueduct Racetrack in his most recent start, Nakatomi will be ridden by Tyler Gaffalione and break from post 2.

Invading from California is Gary Barber's Get Her Number  for trainer Peter Miller. Winner of the American Pharoah Stakes (G1) in 2020 as a 2-year-old, Get Her Number has two runner-up finishes in grade 1s and most recently was third as the favorite in the San Carlos Stakes (G3) at Santa Anita Park. Joel Rosario has the mount and will break from post 3. 

Tom Durant's Run Classic  cuts back in distance from routes for Saturday's Commonwealth after a close third in the Mineshaft Stakes (G3) at Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots for trainer Bret Calhoun. Rey Gutierrez rides from post 7.
