Godolphin's Modern Games and With The Moonlight wasted no time getting familiar with their new surroundings at Keeneland, heading out to train on the main track shortly after it opened at 5:30 a.m. the morning of April 9.
Both Modern Games, the 2022 Breeders' Cup Mile (G1T) hero and Eclipse Award-winning turf male, and multiple graded stakes winner With The Moonlight are trained by Charlie Appleby. The pair had trained at Churchill Downs the morning of April 8 and then vanned to Keeneland Saturday afternoon, according to Chris Connett, the head traveling lad.
Modern Games is expected to start in the April 14 $600,000 Maker's Mark Mile Stakes (G1T), and With The Moonlight is pointed toward the 35th running of the $600,000 Jenny Wiley (G1) for fillies and mares April 15 going 1 1/16 miles on the turf.
Last fall, Modern Games relished the Keeneland lawn, scoring a championship-defining victory in the Breeders' Cup after a noteworthy sophomore campaign. The Maker's Mark will be the seasonal debut for the 4-year-old son of Dubawi (IRE). Others nominated for the Maker's Mark include Atone and Speaking Scout .
With The Moonlight, the winner of last year's Saratoga Oaks Invitational (G3T), has already ran twice this year. The 4-year-old daughter of Frankel captured the Cape Verdi (G2) and Balanchine (G2) in Dubai for her connections. She could face the Chad Brown-trained grade 1-winning duo of Shantisara and In Italian in the Jenny Wiley.
