Chad Brown trainee In Italian will look to pick up right where she left off last year when she takes to the Keeneland surface yet again April 15 for the $600,000 Jenny Wiley Stakes (G1T), which includes a field of nine fillies and mares 4-years-old and up who will contest the 1 1/16-mile turf event.
Brown will be seeking his sixth win in the Jenny Wiley after success last year with Regal Glory along with Ball Dancing (2015), Sistercharlie (2018), and champion Rushing Fall in both 2019 and 2020.
In Italian, a 5-year-old daughter of Dubawi , last ran in the World Championships where she missed by a length to Tuesday to take second in the Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf (G1T) for owner Peter Brant.
After racing lightly during her first year on the track at 3, her 4-year-old season was one for the books which saw multiple wins at the top level including the First Lady Stakes (G1T) during Keeneland's Fall Meet, the Diana Stakes (G1T) at Saratoga Race Course, and the Honey Fox Stakes (G3T) at Gulfstream Park. In Italian also ran runner-up in the Churchill Distaff Turf Mile Stakes (G2T) at Churchill Downs, and placed in Belmont Park's Just a Game Stakes (G1T).
The mare will duel alongside stablemate Speak of the Devil who won the Distaff Turf Mile last year and has not found the winner's circle yet after off-the-board finishes in her last two starts, both in graded company. The 6-year-old Wootton Bassett mare began her career in Europe and won the 2021 Prix Tantieme before shipping to the United States for her 2022 season. She is also owned by Brant.
Other strong contenders for the Jenny Wiley are multiple graded stakes winner With The Moonlight and grade 1 winner Queen Goddess , who are fresh from last-out wins in graded company.
With The Moonlight, a homebred for Godolphin trained by Charlie Appleby, arrives in Lexington from a successful trip to Dubai where she won back-to-back races in the Feb. 3 Cape Verdi (G2) and Feb. 24 Balanchine (G2). The Frankel filly earned her first victory at the graded level last summer at the Spa in the Saratoga Oaks Invitational Stakes (G3T) and was also runner-up in the Belmont Oaks Invitational Stakes (G1T) a month prior.
Conditioned by Mike McCarthy for Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners and Gary Barber, Queen Goddess defeated Shantisara last out in the Pegasas World Cup Filly and Mare Turf Invitational Stakes (G3T) at Gulfstream. Her last start of 2022 was a gate-to-wire win in the Robert J. Frankel Stakes (G3T) at Santa Anita Park, and her lone victory in grade 1 company was an off-the-turf running of the 2021 American Oaks (G1) at the track.
Bobby Flay's Pizza Bianca will also join the fray. The daughter of Fastnet Rock has yet to find her way back to a win in graded stakes company following her victory in the 2021 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf (G1T) at Del Mar. Her last victory was the Hilltop Stakes at Pimlico Race Course before shipping over to England for the Royal Ascot meet last June where she came eighth in the Coronation Stakes (G1) for trainer Christophe Clement.
