Nest , the champion 3-year-old filly of 2022, returned to the worktab April 15 for the first time this year at Palm Beach Downs Training Center in Delray Beach, Fla.
The daughter of Curlin breezed three furlongs in :38.24. Trainer Todd Pletcher said she would have one more work at Palm Beach Downs next weekend before shipping north to Belmont Park.
After finishing fourth in the Breeders' Cup Distaff (G1) Nov. 5, Nest wintered at Stonestreet Farm in Ocala, Fla. Pletcher indicated that a potential target for the 4-year-old could come in the June 10 Ogden Phipps Stakes (G1) at Belmont, the day the Belmont Stakes (G1) will be run.
"The Ogden Phipps will be a little bit of tight spacing, but if she tells us she is ready, that is our first potential target," Pletcher told BloodHorse April 17.
"(Nest has) blossomed, filled out, and grown up a bit. She's made a good transition from 3 to 4. We weren't looking to do much in that first work—just get her back into our breeze program. She seemed to be happy to be back to work and did it easily and in hand, as you would expect."
As part of Nest's Eclipse Award-winning campaign last year for her owners Repole Stable, Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners, and Michael House, she won five of eight starts, including a trio of grade 1s: the Ashland, Alabama, and Coaching Club American Oaks.
