Following a dramatic come-from-behind victory over Secret Oath in the April 15 Apple Blossom Handicap (G1) at Oaklawn Park, Stonestreet Stables' Clairiere moved up to fifth place in the National Thoroughbred Racing Association Top Thoroughbred Poll.
The poll, conducted by national racing media, is meant to represent horses competing for Horse of the Year. The Top Thoroughbred Poll concludes Nov. 7 following the Breeders' Cup Nov. 3-4 at Santa Anita Park.
Juddmonte's Elite Power, last year's Eclipse Award-winning male sprinter, leads with 301 points and 24 first-place votes, with Santa Anita Handicap (G1) winner Stilleto Boy in second and Pegasus World Cup Invitational Stakes (G1) winner Art Collector in third. West Will Power , who defeated Art Collector last month in the New Orleans Classic (G2), is fourth, ahead of the Steve Asmussen-trained Clairiere.
The Bill Mott-trained Elite Power has raced once this year, winning the Riyadh Dirt Sprint (G3) in Saudi Arabia in his first start since capturing the Nov. 5 Breeders' Cup Sprint (G1) at Keeneland. Four victories preceded his Breeders' Cup triumph. Elite Power worked three furlongs in :38 3/5 at Churchill Downs.
Steve Moger's Stilleto Boy, trained by Ed Moger, races April 22 in the $1 million Oaklawn Handicap in a seven-horse field that includes Charge It , Last Samurai , and Proxy.
Forte remains a decisive No. 1 in the Top 3-Year-Old Poll ahead of fellow Todd Pletcher trainee Tapit Trice .
