Three stakes—including a graded event—worth $425,000 highlight the Los Angeles County Fair meet at Los Alamitos. The nine-day season is scheduled to begin Friday, June 23, and continue through Sunday, July 9.
Racing will be conducted Friday-Sunday opening week (June 23-25), Saturday-Tuesday (July 1-4) the middle week, and Saturday-Sunday (July 8-9) the final weekend. Post time will be 1 p.m.
The richest event is the grade 2, $200,000-guaranteed Great Lady M. Stakes for fillies & mares at 6 1/2 furlongs. Captured by Nick Alexander's homebred Becca Taylor in 2022, the Great Lady M. will be offered Tuesday, July 4.
The seven other winners of the Great Lady M. at Los Alamitos are Doinghardtimeagain (2014), Fantastic Style (2015), Eclipse Award winner Finest City (2016), Skye Diamonds (2017), Marley's Freedom (2018-2019), Sneaking Out (2020), and Gamine (2021).
The $125,000-guaranteed Los Alamitos Derby will be run July 8. Last year High Connection provided Hall of Fame trainer Bob Baffert with his sixth consecutive victory in the 1 1/8-mile race.
Before High Connection, the Derby was won by Shared Belief (2014), Gimme Da Lute (2015), Accelerate (2016), eventual 3-year-old champion West Coast (2017), Once On Whiskey (2018), Game Winner (2019), Uncle Chuck (2020), and Classier (2021).
The other stakes on the schedule is the $100,000-guaranteed Bertrando for 3-year-olds and up bred or sired in California. The mile race, which honors the multiple graded stakes winner and champion older male of 1993, will be run June 24.
