Brickyard Ride returns to run in the April 22 $100,000 Kona Gold Stakes (G3), looking to win the 6 1/2-furlong contest at Santa Anita Park for the second year in a row.
The Alfred Pais homebred had a short but torrid 2022, going 4-0-0 from five starts. But after running a distant fifth in the Triple Bend Stakes (G2), the son of Clubhouse Ride took a nine-month break.
Having not raced exclusively on the dirt, 6-year-old Brickyard Ride returned last month in the San Simeon Stakes (G3T), finishing third.
Trained by Craig Lewis, Saturday's race will be the third time in the Kona Gold for Brickyard Ride. He finished second in 2021.
Trained by Doug O'Neill, Anarchist comes into the race having finished second by 2 1/4 lengths to Motorious but a half length ahead of Brickyard Ride in the San Simeon.
Finishing second in all three of his 2023 starts, the son of Distorted Humor , like Brickyard Ride, Anarchist will also be making a return to dirt.
Also in the field is Sunrise Journey , who will be making his fifth start of the year with a pair of wins and seconds.
The 8-year-old Good Journey gelding is making his graded stakes debut.
Rounding out the field is Armagnac , Positivity , and Trumped .
