Put It Back Sires 100th Stakes Winner

The late Put It Back, a longtime Florida stallion and shuttler who later became a leading sire in Brazil, was represented April 15 by his 100th career black-type winner. The stallion by Honour and Glory died at 23 Nov. 11, 2021.

Life Is Strange, a 3-year-old filly, became the sire's milestone stakes winner in the Clasico Paseana (G2) at Hipódromo de San Isidro in Buenos Aires. The filly is undefeated in three starts for owner Haras Rio Dois Irmaos.

Put It Back was a homebred for Jack Dreyfus' Hobeau Farms and won five of seven career starts, including victories in the Riva Ridge Stakes (G2) and Best Turn Stakes. He entered stud in 2002 at Bridlewood Farm in Florida and was a top 10 North American sire his third-crop year. His first crop included eventual grade 1 winner In Summation  and grade 2 winner Smokey Stover .

Bridlewood shuttled Put It Back to Brazil or Argentina seven times in 2003-12. He was relocated permanently in 2013 to Haras Santa Maria de Araras in Brazil and in 2014 he became Brazil's leading sire. His 13 Southern Hemisphere champions include Brazil's 2014 Horse of the Year and champion 3-year-old colt Bal a Bali  , who stands at Calumet Farm near Lexington.

Put It Back's stakes winners include 73 sired in the Southern Hemisphere. His most successful Northern Hemisphere-bred runners include grade 1 winner Jessica Is Back , 2016 Canadian champion sprinter Noholdingback Bear  and Japanese millionaire Black Bar Spin.
