Texas Air Seeks Upset in Lone Star 'Cap

After winning the Texas Mile (gr. III) May 1 at odds of 24-1, Paul Rigali Jr.'s homebred Texas Air will look to provide another upset in the $200,000 Lone Star Park Handicap (gr. III) May 25.



The only Texas-bred in the field of six for the 1 1/16-mile race over Lone Star Park's dirt course, Texas Air is trained by Allen Milligan, will break from post 4 with returning rider Quincy Hamilton, and is 6-1 on the morning line.

The 7-year-old Texas City gelding will take on fellow graded winners Tapiture, Carve, and Majestic City in the Lone Star Handicap.



Winchell Thoroughbreds' Tapiture is a 4-year-old Tapit   colt and was a winner on back-to-back occasions in the 2014 Matt Winn Stakes (gr. III) at Churchill Downs and the West Virginia Derby (gr. II) at Mountaineer Casino, Racetrack & Resort, but hasn't been in the winner's circle in four graded tries since for trainer Steve Asmussen, including a second-place finish in last year's Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile (gr. I) at Santa Anita Park. With a 4-4-3 mark from 14 starts, Tapiture has more than $1.4 million in earnings.



Bloom Racing Stable's Majestic City won his graded debut in the Hollywood Juvenile Championship (gr. III) at Hollywood Park in 2011, but has just one win—the 2013 Big Bear Stakes at Santa Anita—in 21 starts since.



Michael Langford's Carve finished four lengths ahead of Tapiture (they were second and third, respectively) in the Oaklawn Handicap (gr. II) last time out, but earned his only graded score in last year's Prairie Meadows Cornhusker Handicap (gr. III) and was well behind his rival in the Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile.



Rounding out the field is stakes-placed Endurance and allowance winner Cy Seven.
