Unbeaten Promise Me Silver breezed five furlongs at her Churchill Downs base May 22 ahead of her expected bid in the $750,000 Acorn Stakes (gr. I) for 3-year-old fillies June 6 at Belmont Park.
Robert Luttrell's Texas homebred daughter to
Silver City was timed in 1:1:01 1/5, ranking 10th of 20 moves at the distance.
"She worked five-eighths very well and she galloped out really nice," trainer Bret Calhoun said. "It was pretty much what we wanted."
Undefeated in her eight career starts, Promise Me Silver has race at six different tracks, most recently at Churchill, where she won the seven-furlong Eight Belles (gr. III) by 1 1/4 lengths May 1 on the Longines Kentucky Oaks (gr. I) undercard. Overall, she has seven stakes wins.
"I hope we fit really well (in the Acorn). We're not really sure who all is going, but she's earned it," Calhoun said. "She's done really well. This will be the toughest company she's faced so far, but she's raced at six different tracks and we hope that'll benefit her at Belmont. I know the track will be a little different—it's a little deeper, a little sandy—but we think she should handle it.
"She'll work again Friday or Saturday and fly to New York on Wednesday," he added.
In the Acorn, to be run at one mile, Promise Me Silver is expected to meet two-time grade II winner
Birdatthewire and grade I winner
Condo Commando, both unplaced in the Kentucky Oaks; promising allowance winner
Curalina, and New York-based runner
Bar of Gold, who is perfect in three career starts.
