Edition Farm, the iconic 200-acre Dutchess County horse farm just south of Rhinebeck, N.Y., is changing ownership for first time in over 40 years. Legendary Thoroughbred horse breeder Vivien Malloy has sold the farm to Kristina ONeal and Adam Gordon.
ONeal and Gordon are dedicated preservationists and open space advocates. In 2012, they purchased a 227-acre working cattle ranch in Knights Valley, Calif. The ranch serves as a home, preserve, and site for a series of virtuous agriculture projects. Gordon also served on the Director's Cabinet at Scripps Institution of Oceanography for many years.
"We saw a rare opportunity to continue Vivien Malloy's vision. We have deep ties in the food, wine, and environmental communities. The Hudson Valley was a logical place for us to put down roots," Gordan said.
The couple will spend half the year living at their cattle ranch in Northern California and the balance of the year at Edition Farm.
The farm will continue as one of the country's premier foaling operations under the leadership of the current farm manager Teri Brown. Edition Farm boards approximately 70 Thoroughbred racehorses and their foals.
Malloy purchased her first broodmare for Edition Farm in 1981. Since then, she has earned the title of New York's leading breeder twice and has been represented as the breeder of stakes winners across the U.S. and in Japan, led by Japanese grade 1 winner A Shin Forward.
