Laugh Now breaks his maiden at Horseshoe Indianapolis

Laugh Now , a 2-year-old colt by Spendthrift Farm's Breeders' Cup Classic (G1) hero Vino Rosso  , became his sire's first winner May 15. He took a 4 1/2-furlong maiden special weight at Horseshoe Indianapolis for trainer John Ennis and co-owners Hayden Noriega, Mark Arnold, 47 Roses, and Selima Holdings.

Marcelino Pedroza Jr. rode Laugh Now to a two-length win in :52.90. Bred in Kentucky by BF Bloodstock (Pam Robinson), Ennis sourced him from the Keeneland September Yearling Sale last year for $20,000 from his breeder. Out of the winning Tiznow mare Little Pao , Laugh Now debuted April 27 at Keeneland and finished last of eight. He returned 19 days later to defeat four rivals.

A son of Curlin  , Vino Rosso came out swinging, going 2-for-2 at the end of his 2-year-old season for Hall of Famer Todd Pletcher. At 3 he captured the Wood Memorial (G2), ran ninth in the Kentucky Derby (G1), fourth in the Belmont Stakes (G1) and third in the Jim Dandy (G2).

Repole Stable and St. Elias Stable's powerhouse runner was at his best at 4. He won the Stymie Stakes and Gold Cup at Santa Anita Stakes (G1), was second in the Jockey Club Gold Cup Stakes (G1), and capped his year by dominating the Classic. He retired to Spendthrift's breeding shed in 2020 with a record of 6-1-3 in 15 starts and earnings of $4.8 million. This year he stands for an advertised fee of $15,000.
