For Ken and Sarah Ramsey, 2013 was a year when almost everything went as planned on the racetrack, and as a result the couple earned their third Eclipse Award as outstanding owner. The Ramseys previously collected Eclipse trophies in 2004 and 2011.
Winning an unprecedented nine race meets during the year, the Ramseys shattered the record for purse earnings in a season, their total of $12,231,045 outdoing the $11.1 million earned by Stronach Stables in 2000. The Ramseys, who own Ramsey Farm near Nicholasville, Ky., saw their starters wins at a 26% clip for the season. They notched 230 victories from 880 starts.
While maintaining a claiming operation, the Ramseys also race successfully in stakes company, thanks to their homegrown stallion Kitten's Joy . Racing predominantly his sons and daughters, the Ramseys enjoyed 2013 grade I wins by Big Blue Kitten, Admiral Kitten, Kitten's Dumplings, Real Solution, We Miss Artie, and Stephanie's Kitten.
