Journeyman Stallions' freshman sire St Patrick's Day , a full brother to 2015 Triple Crown winner American Pharoah , sired his first winner May 19 when his son Jive won his racing debut at Gulfstream Park.
Jennifer Johnson and Gillian Johnson bred the bay colt in Florida out of the winning Sky Mesa mare Skylarbdancing , who is a full sister to stakes-placed winner Embracing Hearts . Skylarbdancing's second dam, Forty Nine Hearts, is a stakes-placed full sister to Belmont Stakes (G1) winner Editor's Note (Forty Niner) and a half sister to European champion 2-year-old colt Hold That Tiger (Storm Cat). Jive is Skylarbdancing's first starter from two foals.
Brian Cohen bought Jive for $23,000 at the 2022 Ocala Breeders' Sales Winter Mixed Sale out of Kaizen Sales' consignment. The colt now races for BC Racing and is trained by Juan Alvarado. Jive won a five-furlong maiden special weight on the dirt by three-quarters of a length over favorite Paisan . The final time was 1:00.20.
St Patrick's Day raced from 2 to 4 for Susan Magnier and became a winner in his second start at 2. He went on to place in the Renaissance Stakes (G3) and the Millennium Millionaire Celebration Stakes in Ireland.
Standing at Journeyman Stallions near Ocala, Fla., for $3,500, St Patrick's Day is the first Florida freshman stallion to sire a winner and fourth freshman stallion in North America to sire a winner.
