Queen of Silence scored a tenacious neck victory in her career debut May 25 in the second race at Gulfstream Park, fighting off rivals late and becoming the first winner for Twirling Candy .
Ridden by Manoel Cruz, Queen of Silence was timed in :58.35 to win five-furlong maiden special weight race for 2-year-old fillies at 10-1 odds. She is trained by Antonio Sano for Alexandra Racing Stable, which bought her from Lane's End, agent, for $11,000 at the Keeneland September yearling sale.
She was bred in Kentucky by Calumet Farm from the A.P. Indy mare Silent Moccasins, a half sister to Canadian Horse of the Year Quiet Resolve from the family of Canadian champion 3-year-old filly Eye of the Sphynx.
Twirling Candy, an 8-year-old son of Candy Ride —House of Danzing, by Chester House, stands in 2015 for a $10,000 fee at Lane's End near Versailles, Ky. The full brother to grade III winner Dubai Sky and half brother to grade II winner Ethnic Dance has 91 2-year-olds in his first crop.
Twirling Candy retired to stud with a 7-1-1 career line from 11 starts $944,900 in earnings. His record includes the 2010 Malibu Stakes (gr. I) in track-record time at Santa Anita Park and Del Mar Derby (gr. IIT) as well as the 2011 Strub Stakes (gr. II) at Santa Antia and Californian (gr. II) at Hollywood Park.
