By early afternoon May 23, the sales prices weren't quite where they were a day earlier at the Fasig-Tipton Midlantic May 2-Year-Olds in Training Sale in Timonium, Md.

Still, there were gems to be found, and after breezing an eighth of a mile in :10—sharing the honor for fastest at the under tack show—Hip 361, a filly by Take Charge Indy   out of the Songandaprayer mare Perfect Paula, shot to the top of the bid board at $510,000 for Jeff Mackor, agent for Gus King.

"She went over very well. A lot of people liked her to say she was a perfect fit for the sale," said consignor Tristan de Meric. "Obviously, with the female family, she made a lot of sense for a lot of people. And the breeze ... the breeze did not hurt a bit."

The juvenile is a full sibling to Take Charge Paula , a winner in the Forward Gal (G3) and runner-up in the Gulfstream Park Oaks (G2) in 2018.

De Meric was confident the dark bay or brown filly would do well in the sales ring, but was pleasantly surprised to see where the hammer fell.

"We knew she was going to do very well, but you never expect them to kind of bounce along like she did," he said. "She had a very conservative reserve on her, the market spoke, and we're happy that she did as well as she did."

As a weanling, she was a $100,000 buy for First Finds' Tami Bobo and Fernando de Jesus at the 2021 Keeneland November Sale, where she was offered by her breeder, Frankfort Park Farm.

"Tammy and Fernando bought her at the weanling sale; they always buy a nice horse," de Meric said. "We're lucky to have her in the barn. She was a nice filly. She did everything right from day one and we had pointed to here."

The Carpe Diem   filly (Hip 433) saw bidding drive to $350,000 from agent Donato Lanni, who purchased her on behalf of client Michael Lund Petersen.

The chestnut breezed an eighth mile in :10 1/5 last week, which parlayed into success Tuesday. David McKathan picked the filly up last year for $30,000 during the October Sale of Yearlings at Ocala Breeders' Sales.

"She was always a nice filly. We train all of our horses the same and work them in two-minute licks. We never realized what we had until we really let her run on the farm," McKathan said. "She's scary fast. We were a little disappointed when she worked in :10 1/5 here, but it turned out that wasn't a bad time."

Bred in New York by JD Business Ventures, Brushy Hill Stable, and Carpe Diem Syndicate, the filly was initially sold for $17,000 during the Fasig-Tipton Saratoga Fall Sale to Marysue Stable from Schuylerville Thoroughbred Farm's consignment. She is the second foal out of the winning Quality Road   mare Secret Wonder .
