Javier Castellano Earns First Eclipse Award

Javier Castellano won his first Eclipse Award with a record-breaking year in 2013. The jockey rode mounts that earned $26,213,507, surpassing Ramon Dominguez's previous mark of $25,634,852 from 2012.



Born in Venezuela, Castellano came to the U.S. in 1997. He rides the New York/Florida circuit and was the leading jockey during the Belmont Park spring-summer meeting, at Saratoga Race Course, and during the Belmont fall meet last year. He also led the nation in wins with 362 victories.



Castellano won the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies (gr. I) on Ria Antonia. Aboard Princess of Sylmar, he captured the Coaching Club American Oaks (gr. I), Alabama Stakes (gr. I), and Beldame Invitational (gr. I).
