BC Sprint Winner Work All Week Returns at CD

It's been seven months since Midwest Thoroughbreds' Work All Week pulled off a 19-1 upset in the 2014 Xpressbet Breeders' Cup Sprint (gr. I) at Santa Anita Park, and the 6-year-old son of City Zip   finally has made it back to the races, as he takes on six opponents in the six-furlong Aristides Stakes (gr. III) at Churchill Downs May 30.

Trained by Roger Brueggemann, Work All Week was the king of the midwest sprinters last year and 2013, winning stakes at Keeneland, Prairie Meadows, Oaklawn Park, Hawthorne, and Fairmount Park, and capturing allowance races at Arlington International Racecourse and Indiana Grand.

In the Breeders' Cup, he defeated defending Breeders' Cup Sprint winner Secret Circle and two-time Vosburgh Stakes (gr. I) winner Private Zone.

Following a series of sharp work at the Churchill Downs Training Center, Work All Week will face some fast, classy sprinters in the Aristides, most notably Count Fleet Handicap (gr. III) winner Alsvid and Gentlemen's Bet, another crack midwest sprinter who won the Hot Springs Stakes at Oaklawn Park and the Iowa Sprint Handicap at Prairie Meadows and finished third to Secret Circle in the 2013 Breeders' Cup Sprint.

Also in the Aristides is the hard-knocking Nates Mineshaft, coming off a second to Private Zone in the May 2 Churchill Downs Stakes (gr. II).

Work All Week will be ridden by Florent Geroux, who was aboard for his victories in the Breeders' Cup Sprint and Phoenix Stakes (gr. III) at Keeneland. The Illinois-bred will break from the far outside in post 7 and carry topweight of 124 pounds, giving two to four pounds the rest of the field.

Alsvid, trained by Chris Hartman for Black Hawk Stable, was beaten twice by Work All week last year, but has won his last two starts, including a 3/4-length score in the Count Fleet, run in a snappy 1:08 1/5. Chris Landeros has the mount from the rail.

Gentlemen's Bet, who was sidelined for over 15 months from November of 2013 to February of 2015, will be making his fifth start since his layoff and is coming off a fourth-place finish in the Churchill Downs Stakes. He did win the Hot Springs Stakes at Oaklawn back in March. Ricardo Santana Jr. rides for trainer Ron Moquett.

Nates Mineshaft has been inconsistent the last few years, but his Churchill Downs Stakes runner-up performance to Private Zone at odds of 29-1 was a huge improvement, and he's worked well since for trainer Anne Smith.

Rounding out the field are Viva Majorca, impressive winner of an allowance/optional claimer at Churchill in his last start; the Argentine-bred Googleado, a 4 1/2-length winner of a $50,000 claimer at Keeneland last time out; and Good Lord, who has not been in form since winning the Mountaineer Mile at Mountaineer Park last November.
