L Street Lady rallies past Unified Alliance late to win the Jersey Girl Stakes at Belmont Park

While 4-5 favorite Chocolate Gelato  failed to fire in the charge for home, Madaket Stable's L Street Lady  was just getting revved up, roaring from off the pace to take the $145,500 Jersey Girl Stakes by one length June 11 at Belmont Park.

Trained by Brittany Russell, the Laurel Park shipper was dismissed at 12-1 on the odds board, despite turning in a career-best effort last time out when finishing third at 48-1 in the May 19 Miss Preakness Stakes (G3) on Black-Eyed Susan Day at Pimlico. With all eyes on grade 1 winner Chocolate Gelato , who was making her first start since last fall's Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1), L Street Lady sat back early and trailed the field of five as the favorite raced midpack.

Following fractions of :22.52 and :45.98, jockey Manny Franco swung L Street Lady wide turning for home and she bore down on fellow longshot Unified Alliance . Sweeping past her rival, the 3-year-old daughter of Munnings   struck the wire in a final time of 1:11.10 for six furlongs on a fast main track.

Unified Alliance and Wildhawk  completed the trifecta, with Chocolate Gelato settling for fourth.

L Street Lady ($26.20) earned her second stakes victory, having taken the Xtra Heat Stakes at Laurel Park in January. A $125,000 purchase from Liz Crow/BSW at the 2021 Fasig-Tipton Kentucky Select Yearling Sale, she increased her career earnings to $194,900.
