Godolphin's stellar homebred filly Wet Paint is set to make her first appearance since a fourth in the May 5 Kentucky Oaks (G1) when she takes on a field of five other 3-year-olds in the $175,000 Monomoy Girl Overnight Stakes going one mile over the Ellis Park main track June 17.
Hopes were high for the daughter of Blame heading into the first Friday in May after an undefeated 2023 season including wins in the Martha Washington Stakes, Honeybee Stakes (G3), and Fantasy Stakes (G3). The Brad Cox trainee ultimately failed to fire in the final moments of the Oaks after getting caught in traffic late and settled for a spot just off the board.
The Monomoy Girl will be her first step back to a mile since finishing runner-up in an allowance optional claiming race over the Turfway Park tapeta last December.
Gold Standard Racing Stable's Hoosier Philly , who sat just outside the bubble for entry to the Oaks, will square up with Wet Paint for the first time. The Tom Amoss trained daughter of Into Mischief spent the early part of her 3-year-old season at Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots where she was third in the Rachel Alexandra Stakes (G2) and fourth in the Fair Grounds Oaks (G2). Her last start was a runner-up finish in the George E. Mitchell Black-Eyed Susan Stakes (G2).
Completing the field is Sabra Tuff , Champagne Calling , Never Tell Patti , and Flamand .
