Good and Stout breaks his maiden on debut at Evangeline Downs

Good and Stout  became the first winner for Spendthrift Farm's first-crop sire Coal Front   when the 2-year-old won his debut in a maiden race by 4 1/2 lengths at Evangeline Downs June 15.

The Louisiana-bred dark bay or brown colt sat just off early pacesetter Hymm for Carlos before catching that rival in the stretch and pulling away to complete 4 1/2 furlongs in :53.84 under C.J. McMahon. Bred by Adcock's Red River Farm and Hume Wornall, Good and Stout is the first foal out of the More Than Ready daughter Ready Witted . The colt races for Whispering Oak Farms and is trained by Steve Flint.

Good and Stout was a $55,000 yearling purchase by agent Julie Davies from the Kaizen Sales consignment to the 2022 Ocala Breeders' Sales October Yearling Sale. Whispering Oak acquired him in a post-sale transaction in April for $75,000 from Davies' consignment at the OBS Spring Sale of 2-Year-Olds in Training.

Coal Front, a 9-year-old son of Stay Thirsty   out of the Mineshaft   mare Miner's Secret , captured eight of 13 starts and earned more than $1.8 million while racing through 2019. Among these wins were five graded stakes races at five different distances and racetracks.

In addition to Good and Stout, two other juveniles by Coal Front have hit the board in racing this spring through June 15.
