Clairiere after winning the Ogden Phipps Stakes at Belmont Park

Stonestreet homebred Clairiere  returned to the work tab June 25 at Churchill Downs after a hiatus this month following her impressive victory in the Ogden Phipps Stakes (G1) on the Belmont Stakes Day undercard.

The Steve Asmussen trainee went four furlongs in :50 1/5 over the main track.

For 2023, the 5-year-old mare is 2-1-0 from three starts including a runner-up finish behind Secret Oath  in the Azeri Stakes (G2) and a win in the Apple Blossom Handicap (G1). Plans for the remainder of her season look to be geared around getting back to the World Championships in November at Santa Anita Park for the Breeders' Cup Distaff (G1).

In her previous attempts, the daughter of Curlin   has come fourth and third in 2021 and 2022, respectively. Last year's edition was won by Malathaat  who rounded out her season as champion older dirt female.

Other Asmussen trainees who recorded breezes Sunday morning include millionaire Gunite , who was a winner of the Aristides Stakes last out at the Louisville oval. The 4-year-old son of Gun Runner  , who worked four furlongs in :49.00 over the main track, has been training steadily at Churchill after returning from a campaign in the Middle East in March.
