Grade I Producer Critics Acclaim Dies

Critics Acclaim, the dam of grade I winner Rosalind, died May 23 following complications of foaling at Hurstland Farm near Midway, Ky. The 20-year-old mare delivered a full brother to the 2014 Central Bank Ashland Stakes (gr. I) winner the night before.
"The colt, a full brother to Rosalind (by Broken Vow ) is a very nice, big, good-looking foal," said Hurstland Farm owner Alfred Nuckols. "He should be a wonderful legacy for his dam."
Critics Acclaim (Theatrical—Ventured, by Codex) was bred in Kentucky by Hurstland Farm. She won four of 11 starts from 1998-2001, earning $127,780 while racing for James H. Greene Jr. and Hurstland Farm and trainer Leo O'Brien. She was unplaced in a pair of graded stakes attempts in 2000.
Critics Acclaim also produced stakes-placed runner American Diva (by Quiet American). Critics Acclaim also has a yearling full sister to Rosalind who arrived Feb. 19, 2014.
Rosalind, bred by Hurstland, Greene, and Pin Oak Stud, was a $70,000 Fasig-Tipton Kentucky July sale purchase in 2012 by Ray Struder's Landaluce Educe Stables. With trainer Ken McPeek, Rosalind placed in three graded stakes including a third-place finish in the 2013 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies (gr. I) at Santa Anita Park. She was sold for $1 million at last year's Fasig-Tipton Kentucky November sale and now races for Michael Dubb, Bethlehem Stables, and Highclere America. She won the 11-furlong Sheepshead Bay Stakes (gr. IIT) May 2. With a 3-2-3 mark in 14 starts, Rosalind has earned $757,164.
